History of Success

For twenty plus years, Mark Nelson built businesses for the Nelson Family of Companies (NFC), a workforce management and talent acquisition company based in Northern California. After founding Nelson and Associates in 1988, a specialty staffing firm focusing on accounting and finance, he quickly scaled the ranks at NFC, moving from Account Executive to Vice President (built a 5 million dollar business into a 30 million dollar business) in a five year period.

Named President and Chief Operating Officer in 1995, NFC grew revenue from $56 million to nearly $400 million by the end of 2007, while offering a host of new products and services in the human capital space. Working with some of the most highly discriminating clientele in Northern California, Mark has served as a trusted advisor for companies like Google, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Bank of the West, Clorox, Gilardi and Co., Trinchero Family Estates, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Bank of America, and countless others.

As a Principal and Board Member for the Nelson Family of Companies, Mark currently sits on both the Strategic Planning and Audit and Finance Committees.

A graduate of the University of San Francisco in 1985 with a B.S. in accounting, Mark began his career spending three years in the San Francisco office of Price Waterhouse and Company. He is a California certified public accountant (CPA) and has certificated course work in the area of “Strategic Uses of Information Technology” from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

Marks core competencies lie in the areas of comprehensive business and market strategy, client development and strategy, building intimate customer relationships, the hiring and retention of top talent, service delivery, oral and written communication, and fiscal analysis and management. He is an industry expert in the areas of talent acquisition, contingent workforce management, and human capital strategy.

Mark has conducted numerous speaking engagements over the years for the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA), HR Technology Forum, North Bay Business Journal Best Places to Work, Marin Economic Forum, Marin HR Forum, PASCO, Chambers of Commerce, and the WorkforceLogic Users Conference, to name a few.
